Servo and Shaft Encoder Setup
Thomas Wakayama 4/17/00

How to set up the Servo?

First you must cut the lip off the arm that's in front of the screw. This way the piece that you will be mounting on the arm will lay flat on it.

The servo has two crossed arms and you must mount the piece of LEGO across the arm which is lined up with the long side of the servo body.

Make sure that when turning the arm from the above reference position that it is free to rotate almost equally to both the left and the right.

(FOR SOME SERVOS YOU MAY HAVE TO TAKE OFF THE ARM AND PLACE IT IN THE RIGHT PLACE).

How to glue the encoder?

Make sure the red side is in the inside.

Hold down with thumb to move in the exact spot.

Make sure you see red plastic bubble in the hole of the wheel. This means that it's aligned.

Glue on top so that it's glued just to that one piece.

You should put a strip of tape around the end of the red sensor. This will help block any light that gets in there so that it doesn't throw the counts off.
